Details Condition: New Format: Paperback ISBN: 9781444720327 Publisher: Sceptre (Hodder & Stoughton) Age Range: Adult Overview The Natural Explorer by Tristan Gooley is a thought-provoking guide for anyone who wants to see the outdoors with fresh eyes. Drawing on centuries of travellers' wisdom and his own remarkable journeys, Gooley reveals how small, everyday walks can become rich adventures once you know what to look for. This paperback edition is ideal for hikers, nature lovers, teachers and armchair adventurers alike, and makes a thoughtful gift for anyone curious about the natural world around them. About the Book In The Natural Explorer, bestselling author and natural navigator Tristan Gooley argues that true exploration is not about how far you travel, but how closely you observe. He shows readers how to read subtle signs in the weather, landscape, plants and wildlife that most people walk straight past. Blending historical anecdotes from famous explorers with his own hands-on adventures on land, sea and in the air, Gooley builds a compelling case that curiosity and awareness can transform a short countryside stroll into a genuinely memorable journey. The book covers practical observation skills such as reading clouds and wind, understanding how hills and valleys shape a walk, spotting clues left by animals, and using centuries-old traveller wisdom to navigate without modern tools. Gooley's warm, knowledgeable voice makes complex ideas about weather, geology and ecology accessible to complete beginners, while still offering plenty of depth for more experienced walkers. Whether used to prepare for a weekend hike, as inspiration for a nature-focused school lesson, or simply as an absorbing read by the fire, this book rewards readers with a genuinely new way of looking at familiar landscapes. Teaches practical, easy-to-use observation techniques for everyday walks Combines historical traveller wisdom with the author's own real-world adventures Written in an accessible, engaging style suitable for beginners and experienced walkers Compact paperback format, perfect for slipping into a rucksack or coat pocket Ideal gift for hikers, campers, teachers and anyone who loves the outdoors Written by a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation and Royal Geographical Society About the Author Tristan Gooley is a writer and natural navigator whose extraordinary hands-on experience underpins his writing. He has trekked remote regions, sailed small boats across oceans, and piloted light aircraft to Africa and the Arctic, and remains the only living person to have both flown solo and sailed single-handed across the Atlantic. A Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation and the Royal Geographical Society, Gooley runs The Natural Navigator school and has written numerous bestselling books encouraging readers to reconnect with the outdoors through observation and curiosity. Why You'll Love This Nature Guide Perfect for curious walkers and gift buyers alike, The Natural Explorer turns ordinary outings into rewarding adventures.
